About the weave

Where tissue gets its all-over glow

Tissue is the saree that glows rather than glitters. Instead of zari sitting only in the motifs, fine metallic thread runs right through the weave, so the entire field shifts and shines as it moves. It manages to look opulent while staying genuinely light, which is why it has become such a favourite for brides who want a second, easier outfit and for festive dressing that lasts a full day. For a boutique, tissue is an aspirational line that still wears comfortably, and the shimmer reads beautifully in photos and under evening light.

The craft

How Banarasi Tissue Sarees is made

The shimmer is structural. Where most sarees use silk for both warp and weft, a tissue saree carries a fine zari or metallic thread as the weft, woven across a silk warp, so light bounces off the whole surface and not just the booti. Weavers often add small kadhwa motifs or fine borders on top, and a rangkat tissue is built by joining different coloured warp sections so bands of colour run through the shine. Because the metallic weft is so fine, the cloth stays light despite all that glint. It is delicate work; the zari has to be beaten in evenly or the surface looks patchy, which is one quick way to judge quality.

How to style Banarasi Tissue Sarees

An embellished high-neck, sleeveless or embroidered blouse balances the shine. Gold, silver and soft pastels are the easiest sells, with maroon, emerald and royal blue close behind. Suggest a Nivi or lehenga-style drape for a modern bridal look, or a belted drape for something contemporary. Keep jewellery to one statement piece so the saree stays the hero.

Care & handling

Storing, handling & care

Treat tissue gently: dry-clean only, and keep it away from water, which can mark the metallic weft. Store it flat or loosely rolled in a cotton cloth, refolding occasionally so the shine does not crack along a crease. Steam lightly rather than ironing directly, and never set a hot iron straight on the tissue. Keep it out of strong sunlight and away from perfume sprayed at close range. Aired and stored well, a tissue saree keeps its glow for years.
