How Banarasi Cotton Silk Sarees is made

A cotton silk saree is a planned blend. Typically the weavers run silk in one direction and cotton in the other, often a silk warp with a cotton weft, so the silk lends surface shine and strength while the cotton brings softness and air. Some versions use a spun cotton-silk yarn instead. The base is woven on the same Banarasi looms, then brocaded with lighter zari motifs and borders suited to its everyday character, rather than the dense work you would put on a bridal Katan. The cotton content also makes the saree easier to maintain than pure silk, which is part of why it wears so well in daily rotation.

How to style Banarasi Cotton Silk Sarees
